Giveaway! Tickets to Indy Film Fest's Film to Fork Series

Every once in awhile, I do a giveaway here on the blog--not very often, but when something looks fun to me, and I get some tickets to give away, I figure you guys might be interested too!

I have two individual tickets to give away to next Thursday's screening of The Search for General Tso brought to you by the Indy Film Fest. Tickets are normally $50 and include a three-course Chinese-themed dinner from the talented chefs at The Alexander Hotel, a frozen treat from Nicey Treat, and a glass of beer or wine. And of course, you get to stay and watch the film afterwards. It's a pretty good deal for $50, but I have 2 tickets to give away for FREE!

How to enter: Leave a comment on this post about what your favorite food-related film has been--or any memory of food in a movie you have seen. I will randomly pick two different commenters at 5:00 today. If you're chosen, you'll have to give me your email so I can forward your information on to the fine folks at Indy Film Fest.

If you don't win, and you would like tickets (I am hoping to go myself!), you can still get them here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/film-to-fork-the-search-for-general-tso-tickets-15758105919.

I will announce the winners shortly after 5:00 today, so please check back and get back to me by 10:00 am tomorrow or I will pick another winner.

Full Press Release:

Indianapolis, IN—Indy Film Fest’s Film to Fork series—which pairs thought-provoking, food-driven films with corresponding, themed menus—is back for a third year, and we’ve upped the ante yet again. This year, guests will enjoy meals from the wildly talented and much celebrated chefs at The Alexander Hotel before viewing the evening’s film in the IMOCA Gallery next door.

“The Film to Fork Series has quickly become one of Indy Film Fest’s most popular events, with tickets consistently selling out weeks in advance,” said Jason Roemer, Indy Film Fest president. “The themes regarding our food culture clearly resonate with our viewers, and speak to the Fest’s main mission of creating a shared experience around film.”

The series kicks off on March 12 with The Search for General Tso, which takes viewers from Shanghai to the American Midwest—with several stops in between—to uncover the origins of the film’s namesake dish, and answer the question of how this chicken dish became representative of an entire national cuisine. Part history lesson and part detective story, The Search for General Tso examines the American immigrant experience, one bite at a time.

Tickets are just $50, and include dinner, a glass of wine, and admission to the film, and must be purchased from www.indyfilmfest.org prior to March 6.

Other films in the series include:

March 26: The Trip to Italy, the funny follow-up to 2010’s The Trip. This second course follows two old friends through six incredible meals in six very different regions of Italy.

April 9: Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, the directorial debut of Mike Myers, which tells the story of Hollywood legend and music manager Shep Gordon. Gordon made his name managing rock stars, and is largely credited with turning chefs including Emeril Lagasse into rock stars of a different kind.

April 23: The Lunch Box, a bittersweet romance about a lonely housewife who hopes to get her husband’s attention by packing him a special lunch—and unlocks an unexpected friendship instead.

All movies will be screened at Market Table, 333 S. Delaware Street. Doors open for cocktails at 7 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. Film screening will begin immediately following dessert.

The Indy Film Fest 2015 Film to Fork Series is made possible by grants from t
he Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Grant, and Allen Whitehall Clowes, Charitable Foundation, Inc. Beverages for Film to Fork are provided by Crossroad Vintners and Sun King Brewery.

  1. I was going to go with a certain scene from an Indiana Jones movie, but I think Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a better pick.

    Best!

  2. Because Pixar is amazing at everything I'm going with Ratatouille and its reverence for food and how it can effect one's emotions.

  3. No question -- it's definitely the chilled monkey brains from the dinner scene in Temple of Doom (okay, maybe not *favorite* food scene, but definitely one that made the biggest impression on me).

  4. Spanglish with Adam Sandler is my favorite movie that has a lot to do with food and cooking!

  5. What immediately came to mind was the recently released film "Unbroken." In it, Louie, the main character and an Italian-American, reminisces over his mother’s homemade gnocchi. While Louie and two fellow soldiers are floating in a lifeboat on the open sea after a plane crash, Louie launches into a tale of his mother’s meticulous pasta-making process in order to keep all of them conscious and engaged. Coming from an Italian-American family, I enjoyed hearing Louie talk through his mother’s process and enjoyed the scenes of his mother making the pasta dough. It made me homesick for the nights when my family makes our own dough and pasta!

  11. My favorite food related movie is Chocolat . Makes me crave sweets just thinking about that movie :)

  12. One of the most engaging documentaries I have seen - Somm. It's about 5 people's journey to wine's highest sommelier certification as a Master Sommelier. It's pretty incredible not only how they taste...describing wine like rocks, dried lavendar, and a can of freshly opened tennis balls. May not be food exactly...but how much better does wine make food :)

  13. Big Night. The food, the frenzy, the music, the clothes. It's also a great soundtrack to cook by!

  14. The quail in rose petal sauce scene in Like Water For Chocolate

  15. My favorite movie with food is 'Chocolat'. From it I have picked up the phrase "I like it but it's not my favorite."

  16. As expected as this is, I would have to say 'Eat, Pray Love' or 'Julie and Julia'

  17. My favorite food movie is definitely Big Night directed by the one and only Stanley Tucci. I have no idea if the movie was as good as I remember it, or the food afterwards, but I went to see it after not eating much all day. The many, many close-ups of the yummy yummy food were too much. I remember running out as soon as the credits started and eating a lot of food at the closest Italian restaurant we could find.

  18. I always think of the green bacon in "Better Off Dead" and the "French" food the mom serves to the exchange student "Franch fries and Franch dressing". This didn't have to be specific to good food memories, right?!

  19. Annie Hall - Alvie and Annie are running around the kitchen trying to grab those lobsters to boil. I can't eat lobster without thinking about this scene!

  20. Sriracha, The Movie. I went to the premiere. It was awesome to see how something you love and use frequently, comes to fruition. :)

  21. I was going to say Chef, but someone already said it. So I'll go with Butter. Paula Deen agrees.

  22. Chef! I thought it was beautifully shot.

  23. The best and ultimate food scene is from "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover." The final food scene is still vividly imprinted into my mind many decades after I originally saw the movie.

  24. The carrot scene in Fast Times. Forgive me, I was young.

  25. Chef is a beautifully shot movie about food. For documentary, I'll throw out A Place at the Table, which is an amazing documentary about food insecurity and access in America.

  26. There are so many to choose from! The decadent dinner scene in Chocolat. I want to try meat with a chocolate sauce!
